Is IET Lucknow good in comparison to newer IIITs?

Well to be fair and precise colleges don’t decide your future. Your future is decided by your actions by your will and dedication to do better. Moving to the question yes IET Lucknow is good in some aspects but when you are going to compare complete package of a college/university, it will lag behind even to newer IIITs. The biggest pull back for IET Lucknow is that it is  a state government college unlike IIITs which are central government + aided colleges. Still some of the aspects on which i’ve compared IET Lucknow to other Central government colleges are listed below:

Is IET Lucknow comparable to NIT?

It depends on what parameters you are comparing between IET and NITs.
In terms of placements it lags way behind the top NITs but still comparable to NITs of northeast.
As far as study environment is considered, students of IET perform extremely well in exams like GATE, CAT, GRE, etc every year(even better than the students of many renowned NITs).
Apart from this, IET has an edge over newer NITs in terms of alumni network being established in 1984.
In terms of competition level among students, due to 50% state quota in all the NITs many students with very low scores get into NITs but in a state like UP it is very difficult to get into NIT even after state quota due to humongous competition . Two years back, I was a getting a seat in NIT jalandhar (production engineer) in spot round but I opted for IT at IET because i gave preference to the branch of my choice.

How is IET Lucknow in terms of placement?

Placement of any college always divided into two part, core department like Mechanical Civil etc and non core like CS ,IT and EC etc. Here as well placement of Core branches is not so good but their performance in Gate(rank 1, 9, 29 111, 200 and many more) and other PSU is commendable. I will give all credit to class of teaching and brilliant students.
Coming to placement of branches like CS and IT, I would say it is very much satisfactory as TCS is mass recruiter and recruit all the students till average students this include some mech civil and electrical students as well. However TCS is not only recruiter but there are around 15 more companies including Adobe, SoftwareAG, Tech Mahendra, AQ, Lava etc with average salary of 3.5 LPA to maximum 12 LPA.
In one line, if you deserve you will get a job for sure be it On-campus or Off-campus.

MY REVIEW OF IET LUCKNOW:-

I.E.T. Lucknow the ratings by people will depend upon their branch, educational background and the attitude possessed by the students. On one hand we have students who have cracked IIM, GATE and also have got placed in some of the great software companies and on the other hand we have people who are still searching for a Job. Since I am from CS, so I shall confine my opinions w.r.t. CS only.
Here are some of the parameters that could help you to rate I.E.T. Lucknow:
1. Study Environment: The learning environment is not very healthy and motivating. We still do not have a great culture of learning the subjects. Those interested in technical field are mostly found in Made Easy Coaching (Company). The reaming one or two “technical people” are busy in web/android apps.
So don’t expect anything from college if you want to be a good CS Engineer.
2. Sports: Let’s give 2/10 for sports. The college does not care at all about sports.
3. Placement: If you are in CS and:
a.) have a descent marks in B.Tech, 10th and 12th OR
b.) have a sound knowledge of CS,
you will definitely be placed. Unfortunately, the number of such people are about 70-80.
Enough of negatives, Let me discuss some pros also of IET Lucknow:
The best advantage is that if you are not interested in Engineering and interested in future exams like: CAT, GATE, G.R.E., Banking, IES, IAS, then IET Lucknow[Esp CS and IT] is the place for you. There are very few classes in CS and IT and mostly the students are free to do whatever they want.
Over all, I must say that this college has one of the brightest brains of UP and may be you would not see immediate success of many the people here but in a long run, the IETians have proved themselves.
